The Dr. Peter Centre is operated by the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, a non-profit society.
Founded:
The Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation was established in 1992 by Dr. Peter Jepson Young (1957-1992), a young Vancouver physician living with HIV/AIDS.
Opened:
In April 1997, the Dr. Peter Centre Day Health Program opened its doors in an old wing of St. Paul’s Hospital. One year later, a ten person 24-hour care residence was added. After the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation completed a $9.8-million Capital Campaign, the current, permanent Centre opened on September 25, 2003.

The Centre operates a Day Health Program and a 24-hour Care Residence.

Hours of Operation:
Day Health Program: Mon-Fri; 9:00am-3:30pm
Residence: 24 hours per day; 7 days a week
Capacity:
The Residence includes 24 furnished studio suites and short-stay rooms. There are approx. 20,000 Day Health Program visits annually.
Staff & Volunteers:
The Centre employs approximately 90 full and part-time staff and operates with the help of over 100 volunteers.

Funding
The combined Day Health Program and Residence operating budget is approximately $4 million annually. Funding comes from:
- Annual Residence care operating grants from Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH);
- Annual funding for the Day Health Program from BC Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA);
- Annual funding and subsidies under the Canada-British Columbia Affordable Housing Agreement; and
- private and corporate donors.
Admission:
Admission to both the Day Health Program and 24-Hour Residence is on a priority of need basis.
